A collaboration of Jon Anderson (Yes) and Roine Stolt (Transatlantic, The Flower Kings) with the goal of creating epic prog living up to “Tales From Topographic Oceans” or “Olias Of Sunhillow” sounds like a prog fan’s wishful thinking, but “Invention Of Knowledge” is reality. Composed within six months after a spontaneous show during the Progressive Nation At Sea Cruise, the album is a brilliant example how legends of classic and newer prog can find a perfect creative harmony. Stolt explains: “It was like going back to the '70s in one way. Because there were no rules. We were drawing inspiration from all sorts of musical heritages across the world. There were no restrictions. We took inspiration from anywhere and everywhere. There is so much music out there to be excited by, so why deny yourself that possibility?” With a competent team at their “disposal” – e.g. Nad Sylvan (Steve Hackett), Daniel Gildenlöw (Pain Of Salvation), Jonas Reingold (Karmakanic) and more – “Invention Of Knowledge” became an opus consisting of four, long tracks profiting from Anderson’s unique voice and Stolt’s multiple talents as producer and musician. “Invention Of Knowledge” is a faithful and captivating tribute to the essence of prog: There are no rules. There is just music.
