“a way you’ll never be” - by the way, the use of small letters is done by purpose – marks the eighth studio album from JOHN WESLEY. The album brings a modernized return to the classic progressive rock albums of the Seventies. Wesley is standing on the shoulders of his influences such as Rush, Pink Floyd, and Porcupine Tree with the stylings of guitarists such as Robin Trower, Jeff Beck, Alex Lifeson and Warren Haynes. Blessed with powerful riffs, strong hooks, and a good dose of grit as well as a captivating melancholic, intimate atmosphere and brilliant sound courtesy of Jim Morris (Iced Earth, Savatage). Whether if its the rocking opening track “by the light of a sun”, the ballady “to outrun the light”, the instrumental piece “unsafe space” or the final track “pointless endeavors”, in 2016 JOHN WESLEY is at the top of his game in terms of song-writing and emotional impact. “a way you’ll never be” is no one-man-show as Sean Malone (bass) and Mark Prator (drums) deliver a prime performance as well. Rounded off by striking artwork of Carl Glover / Aleph Studio (Porcupine Tree, Marillion), “a way you’ll never be” is highly recommended to everyone who enjoys rock music with a progressive mentality and timeless sound.
